Cytoglow's UCNP labeling technology is built on photon upconversion: a near-infrared 980 nm excitation source drives emission at shorter visible wavelengths — the inverse of conventional fluorophores. The anti-Stokes process avoids interference from biological autofluorescence and produces exceptionally clear signals, frame after frame.

NIR excitation sits well below the absorption bands of biological samples — assays and images stay completely free of native tissue autofluorescence, delivering high signal-to-noise ratios from the first frame.
Unlike organic dyes or quantum dots, lanthanide-doped UCNPs do not degrade under continuous excitation. Image the same field for hours — or repeat readouts for weeks — without measurable signal loss.
NIR excitation wavelengths travel substantially deeper into biological tissue than UV or visible light, opening up live-animal, thick-section, and intravital imaging workflows.
